JEE ( Main/ Advanced ) Coaching Center in Hyderabad
Greetings! I hope you've read the first part of my series on how to prepare for JEE Mains and Advanced. If you haven't yet, catch it here -
How to Prepare for JEE Mains and Advanced in Class XI
Now that you're all caught up, let's get started on how to prepare for JEE Mains and Advanced in Class XII. After preparing for about a year in class XI, JEE exam aspirants would be heading towards completion of the JEE syllabus along with studying for Class XII either in school or in IIT coaching. Class XII is crucial for JEE exam aspirants and quite often they feel the pressure of performing well in both board examinations and the JEE exam. In Indian context, where the terminal point of secondary education i.e. class XII becomes the game changer, it is quite natural to feel nervous. But there are ample examples of exemplary performances by students in class XII boards as well as in IIT JEE simultaneously. Therefore, Class XII students should see the silver lining in the success stories of the past and keep their morale high while preparing to exhibit the best of their performance.
Now, comes the important question of how to negotiate the challenges you are about to face in the forthcoming months till the examinations are arrive. There's no doubt that by toiling hard in right direction with dedication and discipline and strategising your JEE preparation well, one can realise their dream of getting good scores in class XII along with faring well in IIT JEE exam. The main issue I see students worrying about is ‘how to balance the boards along with JEE preparation’. Believe me, the two exams aren’t very different. The idea should be to make concepts thorough and clear to excel in any exam, though there are some topics exclusive to JEE Mains and Advanced and some to Class XII Boards. I will talk about those topics and how to master them.

If you have made up your mind to prepare for engineering, let's discuss how to prepare for JEE Mains and Advanced to give you the best chance of success. We'll cover IIT JEE preparation in Class XII in this article.
How to prepare for JEE Mains and Advanced in Class XII
First of all, to fare well in any exam, you need to plan strategically and follow your daily plans in a disciplined manner. Each topic should be covered with a plan to master its concepts. The best strategy is to cover the topics side by side, parallel to what is being taught in your IIT coaching or school. Avoid piling up backlog.
For any topic in JEE Mains syllabus, first try to cover it from NCERT. In fact the additional problems in the back exercises of NCERT are very good to clarify most of your doubts regarding any particular chapter. Then, move on to JEE books and coaching packages.
For clarifying the theory of any topic, HC Verma (for Physics), Cengage Series (for Maths), and JD LEE, Solomon and Frhyle / Morrison Boyd, P Bahadur (for inorganic, organic and physical chemistry respectively), are some of the best JEE preparation books to rely upon. Generally, it would be better to devote more time solving exclusive JEE books . This way, very less backlog would build up, and would simultaneously help you in preparing for Boards as well. You should utilize only 1/4th of your time on NCERT and the rest for solving the JEE books and packages.
A. Subject wise plan for JEE Preparation in Class XII
Maths is practice, Physics is Concept and Chemistry is learning. Each JEE exam aspirant should to aim to study all three subjects as a component of JEE preparation in Class XII.
All three subjects are very important and only faring well in all of them would guarantee you a good rank in JEE. You should devote approximately equal time on all the three subjects, though it may vary from person to person. Some students are good at learning, so they need to devote more time on Physics and Maths and less time on Chemistry. Some students aren’t able to learn things easily but are good at logical understanding, so they should devote comparatively more time on Chemistry. In short, each person needs to analyze and recognize his/her stronger and weaker subjects and work accordingly to strengthen their weak subjects and simultaneously making their strong subjects even stronger. This would help them not lose their grip over any of the subjects. A student may devote more time to any one subject during a single day. But he/she must study all the three subjects each day.
Also, there are some topics which carry less weightage and thus require less attention. Giving more attention to them would mean ‘wasting time over it’. This is where strategy and smart work play an important role. Topics like Integration, Conic Sections, functions and Permutations Combinations (in Maths), Rotational motion, Wave Optics, Modern Physics, Mechanics (in Physics), P-block elements, Aldehyde Ketones, Named Reactions and their mechanisms, Qualitative Analysis, Ionic Equilibrium(in Chemistry) are very very important topics and are generally asked in JEE carrying huge weightage. So these are the topics which demand the maximum chunk of your JEEpreparation time. Other topics like Surface Chemistry, Biomolecules, Binomial Theorem, Trigonometry, Fluids etc. are slightly less relevant topics in JEE Mains and Advanced. Direct questions aren’t asked from the above topics but their concepts are required in solving typically hard questions. But comparatively less time may be given to them.
